Speaking in Quelimane, the capital of Zambezia province, Abdul Carimo said the international tender attracted six bids, and all that was left to do was sign the contract for the company to start work, “as the cost of the work was set at US$2.3 billion.”

Circulation of trains on the Sena railroad in Mozambique is due to begin again soon and will be safer, said the Minister for Transport and Communications speaking Wednesday in Maputo. According to Mozambican daily newspaper NOticias, Carlos Mesquita was reacting to an announcement by Brazilian company Vale that it was suspending coal transport along that railroad, which links Moatize, in Tete province, to the port of Beira, in Sofala. The announcement was made after two trains were attacked by armed assailants.

Trains loaded with coal which will link Moatize, in Mozambique’s Tete province to the port of Nacala, in Nampula province, should start circulating soon, the provincial director for Transport and Communications of Tete said. Romeo Sandoca told Mozambican news agency AIM that everything was in place for the start of the transport of coal mined in the province, “given that the railway line is fit for the purpose, having been inspected and tested in November, when the first shipment of coal was carried to the port of Nacala.”
