Johannesburg, South Africa, 11 May – South African company Sahara plans to invest US$3 million in building a unit for assembling computers with the capacity to produce 3,000 computers per day, Johannesburg newspaper Business Day reported.

According to the paper, the company has already signed an agreement with the Mozambican authorities to open the unit, which will produce both desktop and laptop computers.

The assembly unit is expected to be the first step in setting up a distribution center for computer products in the region and may be a joint venture with Mozambican Institute of Information Technologies and Communication, a semi-governmental body involved in publishing, business incubation and a science park.

The assembly unit is expected to be in operation in the second quarter of this year. (macauhub)
