ISDB-T is currently only available in Japan, while the European system ahs been adopted by around 100 countries, and the US system by just four.
The memorandum of understanding signed between the Brazilian and Japanese governments, put an end to an almost ten-year-long discussion of the subject.
The decree forces television companies to adopt the SBDTV-T system and ensures free public access to the new system.
