Cabo Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe open embassies in their respective capitals

Cabo Verde (Cape Verde) and São Tomé and Príncipe will open embassies in their respective capitals in 2016, said Friday in Praia the Prime Minister of Cabo Verde, on the second day of a visit by his São Tomé counterpart to the archipelago.

José Maria Neves argued that the opening of embassies in Cabo Verde and São Tomé, scheduled for 2016, would strengthen the partnership between the two countries and allow cooperation to reach a higher level.

In a press conference, the Prime Minister of Cabo Verde said that the two governments had a “very strong” connection and “historic ties” allowing them to have a “strategic partnership.”

The prime minister of São Tomé, Patrice Trovoada visited several facilities related to the sea and vocational training, such as fish processing factory Frescomar, the cold storage platform, Porto Grande and a grain and flour production plant.

Trovoada, who was accompanied by four ministers and the governor of the island of Príncipe, made a request to the Cape Verdean authorities for further integration of his country in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), of which Cabo Verde is a member.

The statement issued at the end of two-day visit by Trovoada to Cabo Verde reports that the request was immediately accepted by the Prime Minister of Cape Verde. (macauhub/CV)
