Macau will have an additional 25,000 hotel rooms in the long term in the 11 hotels being built at the end of 2012 and the 25 hotel projects under consideration, according to figures published by the Macau Land, Public Works and Transport Bureau (DSSOPT).
The 11 hotels that are under construction will add 7,200 rooms, with the eight hotels on the Macau peninsula providing 653 rooms and three under construction in Cotai (Coloane/Taipa) accounting for 6,635 rooms.
The DSSOPT also said that the 25 hotel projects under consideration would add 17,900 rooms, most of which – 14,000 – would be from construction of five hotels in Cotai (Coloane/Taipa), an area that is home to the biggest hotels and gaming venues in Macau.
Of the projects under consideration, the 17 that are planned for the Macau peninsula will add 2,500 rooms, the two projects in Taipa account for another 800 rooms and a project on Coloane Island will add 300 rooms.
The bureau also said that both projects under construction and those under consideration would add 17,200 new car parking spots, both for light passenger vehicles and motorcycles. (macauhub)
