Two thirds of new US aid package to Cape Verde to be used for water and sanitation

Praia, Cape Verde, 8 Feb – Two thirds of the US$66.2 million of the second aid package of the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA), funded by the United States is to be used in the water and sanitation sector, Cape Verde’s prime minister said in Praia Tuesday.

José Maria Neves said that around U$40 million of the second aid package, the agreement for which would be signed Friday in the Cape Verdean capital, would be used for collecting water and to analyse the quality of the water consumed in the country as well as improving the management of its distribution and sale.

“Practically two thirds of the resources of the second aid package from the MCA will be for water resources, which will have an enormous impact not only o institutional reforms but also on improving our capacity to move and manage water,” he said. (macauhub)
