Macau, China, 26 Jan – In 2011 Macau received over 28 million visitors, a year-on-year rise of 12.2 percent, according to the region’s Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC).
According to DSEC, the number of visitors from mainland China (16.1 million), Hong Kong (7.5 million) and South Korea (398,000) rose by 22.2 percent, 1.6 percent and 20.2 percent, respectively. The number of visitors from Taiwan (1.2 million), and from Japan (396,000) fell by 6.0 percent and 4.2 percent, respectively.
Visitors that arrived in Macau by sea totalled 11 million (7.6 percent more than in 2010), 15.3 million by land (16.9 percent more) and 1.6 million visitors arrived by air (2.9 percent more).
In December alone, the total number of visitors to Macau was 2.5 million, which was a rise of 12.1 percent on December of 2010, with most – 1.48 million or 58.2 percent of the total – from mainland China. (macauhub)
