Sasol Petroleum Mozambique Exploration to start seismic surveys on land in Mozambique’s Inhambane province

Maputo, Mozambique, 3 Jan – Sasol Petroleum Mozambique Exploration is due in February to start the process of obtaining seismic data as part of its project to find hydrocarbons onshore in Mozambique’s Inhambane province, Mozambican daily newspaper Notícias reported.

The company, which is a subsidiary of South African petrochemical group Sasol, has a concession for survey and production of hydrocarbons in an area next to the Pande and Temane gas fields, from 1 June, 2011 to 31 May, 2014.

The schedule for the project has three surveying periods ranging from two months to three years and each seismic campaign will take approximately nine months to cover 1,000 kilometres.

Under the terms of the contract signed with the government Sasol has committed to drill at least one test well in the second period, work on which is expected to take between 45 and 60 days, which will be followed by tests over 10 to 15 days.

This is a big project not only because of the amount of investment involved, but also because of the number of jobs to be created – around 600 .- given that de-mining and land clearing work is also expected. (macauhub)
