Luanda, Angola, 22 Nov – Angolan state airport manager, Enana, has invested US$200 million in the refurbishment and modernisation of several of the country’s airports the Minister for Territorial Administration, Bornito de Sousa said recently.
During a visit to the new Carianga airport, in Kwanza Norte province, the chairman of Enana, Manuel Ceita noted that although it was in operation the airport facility needed more than the US$40 million that had already been invested.
Noting that it was necessary to acquire an LS radio help system in order to make it possible for aircraft to locate the airport and get an idea of the surrounding landscape, Ceita said that the intention was to make best use of the airport by creating areas to set up companies, car parks, a hotel and a playground.
The chairman of Enana gave assurances that his company was currently negotiating contracts with some airlines that had shown interest in flying to Kwanza Norte.
Carianga airport, which is called Comandante Ngueto Airport in memory of General José Domingos Captista Cordeiro “Ngueto”, is located some 7 kilometres from the city of Ndalatando and, with its inauguration, the province of Kwanza Norte is now linked to the rest of the country by road, rail and air.
