Lubango, Angola, 10 Nov – The Huíla industrial park in Angola over the last nine years has attracted investments of US$234 million, most of which in the form of private investment in light industry, the provincial director for Industry, Geology and Mining said Wednesday in Lubango.
Speaking to Angolan news agency Angop, Paula Filomena Joaquim said that US$132 million had been spent on building light industry units for jams, soft drinks, pasta, biscuits and construction materials.
Of the US$132 million US$82 million were spent on the food sector, specifically the A Nossa Terra agri-industrial complex and US$34 million on the Ngola beer factory.
Joaquim also noted the founding of development company Sociedade de Desenvolvimento da Matala (Sodmat) and agricultural company Sociedade Agrícola da Jamba, which invested US$4 million to set up a tomato paste factory, a strawberry pulp factory and a cheese factory.
Joaquim added that in the same period the light industry sector had seen construction of a brick factory (Nova Cerâmica Ginjeiras) costing US$20,286,842.
The director for Industry, Geology and Mining mentioned an investment of US$28 million to open companies to manufacture reinforced cement, black granite and marble.
Joaquim said she expected the industrial park would grow based on the inauguration of the Cassinga iron project, as well as the Matala industrial development hub and another in Lubango.
The Huíla industrial park, the second-largest in Angola, has four industrial areas: Two in Lubango, one in Humpata and another in Matala, with a total of 110 industrial units. (macauhub)
