Brazil’s Embraer to receive public funding to manufacture part of the KC-390 aircraft in Portugal

Lisbon, Portugal, 10 Nov – The KC-390 military cargo aircraft of Brazilian aeronautical company Embraer is expected to receive public funding of up to 87 million euros for part of the plane to be manufactured in Portugal, according to a dispatch published Wednesday in Portuguese state official newspaper, Diário da República.

The dispatch said that the project would be financed using funds from the National Strategic Benchmark Framework (QREN) and alternative sources of funding if QREN is not sufficient or is not applicable.

Portuguese daily financial newspaper Jornal de Negócios said that the Portuguese government wanted to ensure that conditions were met to take on the, “contractual commitments inherent to establishing the partnership with Embraer,” guaranteeing participation in the KC-390 project by manufacturing components and software systems.

The Embraer KC-390 is an aircraft for tactical/logistical transport and in air re-fueling that sets a new standard for medium-sized military transport and was developed to meet the operational needs of the Brazilian Air Force, which plans to replace its C-130 Hercules aircraft. (macauhub)
