Luanda, Angola, 28 Sept – Angola’s mining sector has been recovering from the world economic and financial crisis and is creating conditions to have a more active role in the growth of the national economy, Angola’s secretary of state for Industry, Kiala Gabriel said Tuesday in Luanda.
Speaking to Angolan news agency Angop, the secretary of State said that once the mining code is approved, along with the execution of the geological plan and recovery of diamond prices, “we can say that the sector will see better days.”
Gabriel noted that the sector’s contribution to Angola’s Gross Domestic Product had been significantly reduced over the last three years, to just 1 percent, but added that with the prospecting projects that were underway and some that were going into the exploration phase, this would rise to 5 percent.
The secretary of State also said that everything that is produced in Angola could be exported without any problems, so long as it was processed and not in a raw state.
“This way we plan to keep jobs in the country, to add value and save resources,” Gabriel noted. (macauhub)
