Luanda, Angola, 5 Sept – Angolan technical specialists are going to take part in the management and maintenance of Angolan satellite AngoSat, which is due to be put into orbit in 2012, Angola’s Minister for Telecommunications and Information Technology said Sunday in Luanda.
Speaking to Angolan news agency Angop, José Carvalho da Rocha said that after the satellite started operating, Angola would have four years to train its staff to work on the country’s first, second and third satellites .
The construction, placing in orbit and operation of the satellite are in the hands of a Russian consortium led by the Rosboronexport company and when it starts operating the satellite will make it possible to provide international access, support and expansion of broadband Internet services, transmission to telecommunications operators and access to support for television and radio network services.
The contract, which is worth US$327 million and has an estimated production time of 39 months, includes the supply of technical requirements, and training of Angolan staff in space technology to manage the satellite.
The Russian consortium is made up of RSC (Rocket Space Corporation) Energia, Telecom-Projecto 5 and Rosoboronexport, which heads up the groups, and is also responsible for building the satellite. (macauhub)
