Guinea Bissau’s government to sign UN development plan

Bissau, Guinea Bissau, 6 July – The government of Guinea Bissau and the United Nations signed the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) for 2009 to 2012, budgeted at US$116 million, officials said in Bissau Thursday.

According to an official statement, the plan was drawn up in conjunction by the several UN agencies present in Guinea Bissau and in Senegal and representatives of the Guinean government, as well as development partners and civil society organizations.

The UN plan to assist Guinea Bissau’s development will focus on the Rule of Law, support for developing human capital, by developing ways of exploring agricultural and natural resources.

As part of this plan the Guinean authorities have already been provided with over US$23 million, the statement added.

The plan aims to help the Guinean authorities to “successfully meet the Millennium development targets proposed for Guinea Bissau, are an actual improvement in the population’s living conditions,” the statement said. (macauhub)
